Game of Numbers #6 – Lucy Bronze as a Floating 8

FC Barcelona Femení had a slow start to their first match of the season, initially struggling to find avenues forward in Tenerife's 5-4-1 defensive block. UD Granadilla Tenerife compacted the lines both vertically and horizontally to stunt Barcelona's progress forward, but in an abnormally high-line that spurred Giráldez's team to hit long passes over the top. They were caught offside from these attempts time and time again, particularly in their quest to spray in behind for Geyse's speed. But then, everything changed.

Why Manchester United should play 3-4-1-2

The current dialogue around Manchester United is boring. Every week, it's the same story in the media, whether or not they win, lose or draw. It's obvious that Manchester United are not at their best, but very few are discussing tangible ways for the Red Devils to fasten their seatbelts and shift the car into overdrive. So with that, today we take a look at why Manchester United should shift away from a back-four, and into a 3-4-1-2. Don't get us wrong, United need to drill several loose bolts. But, a change to the formation may help to mitigate several of their greatest issues.

West Ham United – 4-2-3-1 – Tactical Analysis (2020-21)

Recently, I did a second Aston Villa Tactical Analysis discussing how Dean Smith's side went from narrowly escaping relegation in 2019-20 to now being genuine contenders for the Europa League in time for next season. The same could be said of West Ham United. Although David Moyes' side escaped relegation by a greater margin, they've also been better than Villa by a narrow margin again this season, just in a much different place in the table for both. Like Aston Villa, West Ham United are also contenders for a place in next season's Europa League with their performances in the league in 2020-21. With Villa being one of their top challengers for a top six finish, doing the double over the Lions has also boasted well for the Hammers as they go into the final third of the season. Here is a tactical analysis of West Ham United since they shifted from a 5-4-1/3-4-3 formation to a 4-2-3-1.

England 2-0 Malta: Henderson and Rooney Star

Although it was only Malta, England's national football team had one of their best performances of recent years as they kept 80% of the possession, were firing on all cylinders and eased past the Southern European nation to a 2-0 win in World Cup 2018 qualifying. I've hardly ever seen any team keep 80% of … Continue reading England 2-0 Malta: Henderson and Rooney Star

FA Community Shield Report: Leicester 1-2 Manchester United, Don’t Act Like Mourinho Did Anything

The FA Community Shield was an entertaining encounter that saw FA Cup winners Manchester United come away as 2-1 victors over Premier League title winners Leicester City.
