With all the Premier League clubs interested in Alexandre Lacazette this summer, one might have thought he’d finally end up in England. Arsenal and West Ham United both put in a massive offers for the French forward but Lacazette decided to stay with Olympique Lyonnais and is now reaping the benefits.

In the first three matches of the season, Lacazette has scored twice as many goals as games for a total of 6 goals. As a result he is the current leader in the race for the European Golden Shoe, an award he nearly won back in 2014-15 when he scored 27 goals in 33 appearances.

Lacazette has a history of scoring goals in Ligue 1 and 2016-17 has been no different so far as he looks like the only likely contender to win the golden boot and we’re only in the month of August. In the first match of the season against AS Nancy, the 25-year old scored all three goals as Lyon walked to a 3-0 win. Then against SC Caen on Matchday 2, Lacazette bagged two more goals as his side won 2-0. Then finally just a few days ago on Saturday August 27th, Lacazette scored yet again only this time one of his teammates scored with him and his team couldn’t claim victory as Dijon won 4-2. Lyon have started brightly this season and Lacazette definitely has to be credited as the main reason why. Les Gones have scored seven goals this season, six of which have been scored by him.

Alexandre Lacazette has had a fantastic month of football and with every goal he scores, Premier League clubs are kicking themselves more and more for not putting in a serious offer for him. Alexandre Lacazette is The Mastermind‘s European Player of the Month for August 2016.
