European Player of the Month October 2016: Anthony Modeste

The Mastermind‘s European Player of the Month for the month of October is FC Cologne’s surprise new star Anthony Modeste. The French-born 28-year old was absolutely incredible in the month of October, netting a goal in every single match he played in and more bagging 7 goals in Bundesliga 4 matches to help Cologne lose only 1 match the entire month.

Anthony Modeste has always been a potent poacher of goals but this season has managed to take his game to the next level almost Jamie Vardy styled with a fantastic rise to the top of the goal scoring charts in Europe ahead of the likes of Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo and Lewandowski. The Frenchman currently has 11 goals with 1 assist in 9 matches so far this season but October was where he really showed his class. It all started off wonderfully for Modeste in October as on the very first day of the month he rescued his side with a late goal to secure a 1-1 draw against title challengers Bayern Munich, helping Cologne extend their unbeaten run in the league. Then fourteen days later after the international break the Frenchman was back at it again, scoring both goals in Cologne’s 2-1 win over FC Ingolstadt to win the man of the match award and keep Cologne at the top of the table.

But he didn’t stop there, seven days later despite Cologne succumbing to their first loss of the season, a 2-1 defeat to Hertha Berlin, Modeste still bagged the only goal of the night for his team. Then finally to cap the month off and win the Player of the Month award, the French striker scored a fantastic hat-trick, scoring all three goals in Cologne’s 3-0 win over Hamburg SV. In the month of October, no other player has scored for FC Cologne, highlighting his importance to Peter Stöger’s side once and for all.

Anthony Modeste is the European Player of the Month for October and is one of the latest inductees into the Mastermind’s Top 200 Club! It’s been a fantastic run of form for the French striker and now we’ll just have to see if he can keep on finding the back of the net at the same rate for the rest of the season. If he can Anthony Modeste might be on his way to establishing himself as one of Europe’s most potent goal scorers.
