The Mastermind Award Nominees 2016: Best Winner

In covering dozens of different events, seasons, tournaments and shows there is always a handful of losers to talk about and one very distinct winner to eulogize. These are the six best Winners of 2016 as part of the 2016 Mastermind Awards.

Leicester City (2015-16 Barclays Premier League) ♥

There has never been a greater achievement in the history of football. Claudio Ranieri managed to take a team of mid-table type players and lead them all the way to Premier League glory in 2015-16 in arguably the greatest moment the Premier League has ever seen. Leicester lost just three games the entire season on their way to winning the Premier League title and won every single award imaginable from Players’ Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez to FWA Player of the Year Jamie Vardy to Manager of the Year Claudio Ranieri. This was a truly special set of players and manager and a piece of history like this might never be repeated. Dilly ding, dilly dong, vote for Leicester City to win this award.

Michele Fitzgerald (Survivor Kaoh Rong)

Michele Fitzgerald

Although Michele Fitzgerald’s win in Survivor Kaoh Rong surprised many at time, the general consesus now is that she is a very deserving winner of the game and possibly even one of the best social players to ever play.  Michele won the game of Survivor by remaining a sociable, likable player who was always open to working with anyone. She didn’t make any enemies on the jury, she didn’t tell any horrific lies, she was never in any real danger of going home due to her good social bonds, and when the time came to plead her case as to why she should win, she argued better than the two sitting next to her and won the game. Michele’s win is one of the most explored and talked about ever in the history of the show so if you think you know it all and thinks he is an amazing winner of this game then vote for her now!

Riyad Mahrez (PFA Player of the Year)

Riyad Mahrez

Hardly anyone had even heard of Riyad Mahrez before the 2015-16 season as the player netted just 4 goals this season before! But when Claudio Ranieri came to the club the Algerian midfielder transformed into a whole new player. The right winger stunned the league with his insane dribbling skills, incisive finishes and wonderful ability to pick a pass as he scored 17 goals with 11 assists in 37 league matches to win the PFA Player of the Year award and help Leicester City win the title against all odds. Talk about Leicester having 5000/1 odds to win the league before the season began, Riyad Mahrez would have had similar odds to win this award but somehow managed to pull it off.

Nicole Franzel (Big Brother 18)

Like Michele Fitzgerald, Nicole Franzel’s Big Brother 18 win came as a suprise to many. Not because she didn’t play a great game, but because many had thought that the jury would vote for Paul instead. Nicole ended up winning the game by a final jury vote of 5-4 after a long-hard battle and an impressive game in which she managed to keep herself in the majority and in the know the entire time. The general consensus at the time of her win was that Nicole didn’t deserve to win over the strategic Paul but she did make history becoming the first woman to ever beat a man in a final two in Big Brother USA, and today is thought of by most to be the correct winner of the game and a very good one at that.

Steph and Kristen (Amazing Race Canada 4)

On September 13, 2016 Steph and Kristen became the first ever female winners of the Amazing Race Canada in the show’s fourth season. After a dominant run of 5 first place finishes and never having difficulty with any single task the entire race, the dating couple became the first ever lesbian couple to win any version of the show. From the way they raced, Steph and Kristen are the best team to ever win the Canadian version of this show and with an average finish of 2.00, they are the statistically the joint-seventh best in Amazing Race history around the world. The softball girls were always positive, focused on the task at hand and never yelled at each other, always supporting each other instead. They solidified their win with their cutthroat approach to the game in regards to the express pass and the u-turn boards, their ability to conquer any kind of task and the optimism they shared about the race and their relationship. Steph and Kristen were a formidable team, highly entertaining and were definitely deserving winners of the Amazing Race Canada 4.

Portugal (Euro 2016)

Portugal v France - Final: UEFA Euro 2016

Nobody expected Portugal to win Euro 2016 but Cristiano and co managed to pull it off. With Nani, Ronaldo, Joao Mario, Guerreiro, Rui Patricio, Pepe and William Carvalho all firing on all cylinders, Portugal managed to win the tournament despite only winning two games (excluding PK shootout wins) before the final. With the manager’s fantastic squad rotation policy, Portugal had the legs to kick on when other teams just simply couldn’t, winning several knockout stage games in extra time. Despite not having many big name players, A Selecao managed to defy the odds and come out as victors of the summer tournament with every single player playing a part.

So there it is the six best Winners of 2016 and the nominees for Winner of the Year. So where can I vote?! Voting is now open here -> VOTE: The Mastermind Awards 2016. Enjoy!
