Adam Lallana Reaching New Heights Under Jurgen Klopp in 2016-17

Liverpool FC have started the 2016-17 season off brightly, recording three wins from their first five matches in all competitions, and one of the key’s to the club’s success so far has been English midfielder Adam Lallana, who has come of age in a Liverpool shirt and is now in the form of his life, playing a massive role in Jurgen Klopp’s setup.

Adam Lallana has been incredible to start this season and has adapted immediately to his new position as the midfielder on the far right of a midfield three. In 4 Premier League matches so far this term, the former Southampton captain has registered 2 goals and 1 assist as Liverpool currently sit in 5th place. The attacking midfielder has also created 7 chances and has had 100% of his shots thus far on target. If he can keep this kind of form up it will be a special season from the midfielder and will easily be his best season as a professional footballer.

Lallana was immense for Southampton during his eight-year spell at the club, featuring in 265 matches in all competitions and scoring 60 goals. In the season before he left for Liverpool in 2013-14, he was so impressive scoring 9 goals with 5 assists in 37 matches, that he earned a selection to the PFA Team of the Year and a selection to England’s World Cup squad, earning his first international caps as a professional footballer.

But ever since arriving at Liverpool in 2014, he hasn’t exactly been instrumental to the club’s success and has never really looked irreplaceable in the side until now. This season, Adam Lallana is finally showing the kind of form at Liverpool that he showed in his Southampton days and it is down to his own hard work, perseverance and the faith and confidence that the manager has shown in him. Lallana’s always been full of energy and even when his team isn’t playing well, he always finds a way to make things happen. No matter what, you know that Lallana is going to give you his 100% effort in any given match and always be engaged and involved every step of the way. However, the 28-year old hasn’t always been able to transition that energy and creativeness into goals and assists and as a result has been expendable at times to Liverpool teams of seasons past. This season though, Adam Lallana will be anything but expendable and will instead be one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important pieces to the quest for top four puzzle.

Adam Lallana’s always been an incredibly versatile player but he has really found a home now on the right side of the Liverpool midfield three. He’s been able to link up brilliantly with Sadio Mane and the two have developed a formidable partnership that has been nearly impossible for any set of defenders to stop. Just recently, in a 4-1 victory over last season’s champions Leicester City, Sadio Mane went on a brilliant surging run and then laid it off to Adam Lallana who smashed into the back of the net.

Moreover, he’s been able to transition his good form for his club over to his national side on the left wing, and was instrumental in England’s 1-0 win over Slovakia, scoring the only goal of the game. It is now that Adam Lallana has regained full confidence under Jurgen Klopp and is currently in the form of his life. Although his wonderful performance in Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Leicester wasn’t enough to earn him a selection in this week’s Team of the Week, his performances in recent weeks have certainly been enough to catch the eye and make note of.

Adam Lallana has been integral to Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s success so far in 2016-17 and will continue to be absolutely instrumental to their quest for Champions League football next season. No matter where Klopp wants to play him he can always know that Lallana is going to give his 100% effort and give everything he can to win his team the match. But now that he’s adding goals and assists into the mix he could be an absolutely unstoppable force this season, destined for his best season as a professional footballer.
